East Africa's Kenya, Tanzania & Uganda Gorillas Safari
Combining East Africa's most significant wildlife experiences on one itinerary, this tour opens with gorilla trekking in Uganda's teeming rainforests before flying you to the savannahs of the Masai Mara in Kenya and the Serengeti in Tanzania to marvel at the Great Wildebeest Migration. Then it is on to the Ngorongoro Crater, home to all of Africa's Big 5 – lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo – and a host of other animals before finishing with your feet up at a coffee lodge with views of Mount Meru.
Flying between destinations minimises your travelling time and is less tiring than driving. Your safari accommodation takes the form of small and intimate tented camps in prime game-viewing locations and consists of large and luxurious tents that come complete with en suite bathrooms and outdoor areas to sit back in and soak up the views. You enjoy morning and afternoon game drives and have opportunities to interact with the local community too. Additional activities such as hot-air balloon rides can be arranged.
Rich in experience and biodiversity, this is a tour that will appeal to nature enthusiasts and wildlife photographers. The high standard of accommodation and level of service also means it is also suitable for discerning safari-goers, honeymooners and romantic travellers, too.

we were anxious to get to the Sanctuary Gorilla Camp at Bwindi anyway. We weren’t disappointed. The 94 steps from the road to the camp were designed to get us in shape for the treks to come in search of the mountain gorillas. As usual the staff and accommodations were first rate but I do have to single out Elii. He is the epitome of Sanctuary staff. He was always there when we needed something from bringing us a cheese and fruit platter because we had missed lunch, which we mistakenly left on our deck and was promptly finished off by the local monkeys, to figuring out why Jan’s phone wouldn’t connect to the internet. He knew what we ate for breakfast and what wine...
After breakfast at the hotel you are transferred back to Entebbe Airport for a flight to the town of Kihihi. Here you are met and transferred to Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp where you check in for three nights. There is time to freshen up in your suite – one of only eight at camp and each with views into the lush jungle canopy – before meeting the local community and enjoying an informative walk with local guides.
The following two days are devoted to exploring the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park with expert guides. A gorilla encounter is the main focus (you have two gorilla day permits) and there are other primates to look for as well as amazing birds and butterflies. Back at camp as the night cools down, you have a roaring campfire and local songs to look forward to as well as a deep bathtub in your suite, perfect for soothing any aching muscles after a day of hiking.
Ideal base for gorilla tracking
Gorillas regularly seen in camp
Incredible views over the forest canopy
In the heart of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Forest walks and village visits
Remote location that is ideal for nature lovers

He was always there when we needed something from bringing us a cheese and fruit platter because we had missed lunch, which we mistakenly left on our deck and was promptly finished off by the local monkeys, to figuring out why Jan’s phone wouldn’t connect to the internet. He knew what we ate for breakfast and what wines we wanted with dinner. Then there were the gorillas. The trekking groups are limited to 8 and once the gorillas are found we are limited to one hour of picture taking etc. It took our group a little over an hour of climbing and slogging through the mud to find our “family”. There were 4 babies, one teenager, 2 females and a very large silverback. The experience was amazing we just about wore out our cameras and all but the silverback were more than willing to entertain us. The silverback, pretty much, was just laying in some bushes nearby until he decided he had had enough, he rose up, stared at us for a few nervous moments and sauntered off into the brush just feet from where we were standing. I don’t think anyone in our group was breathing. I had a bit of a life changing experience….Jan was videoing some babies climbing in a tree nearby and I was standing just behind her watching when the teenager (about the size of a chimpanzee) came running up to me and threw his “arms” around my leg and had my entire knee in his mouth. The ranger who was accompanying us ran over and chased him away and told me “he wasn’t biting you, he was just playing”….you could’ve fooled me. The entire days experience will be talked about for years to come. The following day Jan and I joined a young lady from the local village for a walking tour to visit a pygmy group that had lived in the mountains with the gorillas until it was turned into a National Park. The government relocated them and they seem content with their new environment. We also visited a medicine man who explained how all the leaves and berries were used for medicines. We visited the local hospital, a primary school filled with the most beautiful children and a woman’s craft shop and a man who makes gin out of bananas (not great). A wonderful day.!!
Olonana was beautiful. It has been completely remodeled in the past few months. The location of the rooms right on the river is awesome. They don’t have screens in the bedroom area so you can’t really leave the doors open for air. Not an issue for us except it got a little stuffy at times. They are talking about putting in air conditioning.
It is a day of travel today: after breakfast you are transferred back to Kihihi for a scheduled flight to Entebbe. You will be met at the airport and assisted onto a scheduled flight to Kenya’s Masai Mara Kichwa Tembo Airstrip. Here you’ll meet your guide who will transfer you to camp. Your destination is Sanctuary Olonana, a luxurious tented camp set on the Mara River at the heart of the Masai Mara National Reserve. It is an excellent destination for wildlife viewing at any time of year and is especially good for predators.
Between July and October it is an area that plays host to one of the Wildebeest Migration’s most dramatic chapters: the Mara River crossings. You have two full days to soak up the action, regardless of the season, on expertly led morning and afternoon game drives, returning each evening to a camp that blends ecological design and elegant comfort right down to the mini-spa and secluded swimming pool.

The weather in Tanzania was much more tolerable than expected, and the safaris got even better! Both Sanctuary properties were wonderful. The food was delicious, the staff was attentive and amazing, and the locations were superior. Except for the elusive cheetah, there was nothing that we missed.
In the Serengeti not only did we find much of the North-South migration, but we caught 2 major river crossings and one crocodile take-down…although I learned that you should definitely be careful of what you wish for, as that was hard to see. But what an amazing experience all around. We were very sad to leave. And by the way, our guide, Filbert, was also a photographer, and he help...
Pick up a picnic lunch from the lodge before you leave: it is another day of travel. A morning transfer after breakfast takes you to the Kenyan border town of Migori where you cross the border into Tanzania and the town of Tarime. You then fly from Tarime to an airstrip in the Serengeti National Park where you are met and driven to Sanctuary Kichakani Serengeti Camp to check in for three nights.
The sleek and stylish Kichakani is a Migration-specialist camp, and is set up in the best places for the most dramatic views of the thundering herds and their ever-attendant predators. Make sure you recharge camera batteries in your suite – you are heading out into the thick of the action on two full-day game drives.

A short flight from the Serengeti to Manyara and a road transfer takes you to the edge of the largest intact volcanic caldera in the world, the Ngorongoro Crater. Your accommodation – Sanctuary Ngorongoro Crater Camp – lies in a wooded valley by the access road to the Crater – well located to get ahead of other vehicles.
You have magnificent views from camp but even better ones the next day when you explore the Crater floor on a full-day drive. A destination known for its easy and regular sightings of the Big 5, it is also home to hippos, hyenas, flamingos and large herds of antelope and zebra. Back at camp you have a simple but comfortable tented suite with a private bathroom.
