Bounded geographically by semi-deserts, mountains and lakes (nearly 25 percent of Uganda's surface area is covered by water) and sandwiched politically between giant neighbours, Uganda is a landlocked country further squeezed on both sides by the east and west branches of the Great Rift Valley.
Its elevated, equatorial location boasts a number of ecosystems, as varied as they are fascinating for the African traveller.
Uganda's natural beauty led Winston Churchill to call it the 'Pearl of Africa' and its wildlife is on the road to recovery after decades of abuse.
The same could be said for its people: for years they have borne the brunt of despotic rule, economic collapse and war but the corner has well and truly been turned and Uganda is certainly the Next Big Thing in Africa.
