Swaziland » General Information » Overview

The Kingdom of Swaziland is a small, landlocked country engulfed by South Africa in the north, south and west and bordering Mozambique in the east.

The western edge of Swaziland is a mountainous area, typified by rural hills and valleys, as well as a large area covered by pine and eucalyptus plantations.

The land flattens out towards the centre of the country where the majority of the people and urban areas can be found.

Moving east towards Mozambique the landscape becomes scrubby lowveld and sugar plantations before reaching the great Lebombo Mountains that form the border with Mozambique.

As one of the smallest countries in Africa, and with good infrastructure, it's an easy country to navigate. Although it has its own currency the value is linked to that of South Africa's rand.

The climate is good for year round travel with cool and dry winters and hot summers. The warmer months see dramatic thunderstorms, particularly from December to March.
