A landlocked country located on the buckled western branch of the Great Rift Valley, Rwanda may be tiny but it boasts an extraordinary robust and diverse environment.
It's not known as 'The Land of a Thousand Hills' for nothing: mountains and volcanoes dominate the western, northern and central part of the country with lower and flatter land to the east.
Lakes and rivers form an often inter-connected web of waterways and the fertile soil, warm climate and plentiful rain ensure that Rwanda is a well-vegetated country.
