Departing Swakopmund, the first leg of this overland trip explores the best of northern Namibia, such as Spitzkoppe and Etosha National Park. After exciting game viewing in Etosha you travel on to the Okavango Delta, where your game-viewing experience continues from dugout canoes on the pristine delta waterways. Next you visit Caprivi and Chobe National Park, and round off your overland experience with white water rafting and bungee jumping in the 'adrenaline capital of Africa' - Victoria Falls.
- Day 1: Swakopmund
- Itinerary
Your first day is spent in pursuit of adrenalin, enjoying the many optional adventure activities available in Swakopmund. Alternatively you may choose to do some shopping in town or head for the beach. If you need to organise your finances there are ATM banking facilities in town and foreign exchange offices that are open during working hours.
- Day 2: Himba Tribes
- Itinerary
From Swakopmund you drive north towards Outjo, where you meet some of the local people of the area. The Himba are semi-nomadic pastoralists who are easily recognisable by their unique style of dress. Their hair, clothes and jewellery all form an important part of their tradition and culture.
Please have respect for the people that you are going to visit. Keep in mind that they have a different culture, and that behaviour you deem as normal might be offensive to them, and vice versa.
- Days 3-4: Etosha National Park
- Itinerary
An early rise sees you on your way to Etosha National Park, home to over 340 bird, 110 reptile and 100 mammal species including close to 3,000 elephant and one of the biggest populations of black rhino in Africa. You spend your days visiting the abundant waterholes which offer excellent opportunities for game photography. After your evening meal you can relax at the floodlit waterholes.
Occasionally it is not possible to stay inside the park at night, in which case you overnight at a local guest farm.
- Day 5: Windhoek
- Itinerary
After an early morning game drive you set off for Windhoek, the capital of Namibia. On the way you will stop at a local craft market for some shopping. An evening meal at Joe's Beer House (own expense) gives you the chance to try many different types of game meat. Vegetarians are also well catered for and the interesting décor and vibrant atmosphere make it well worth a visit.
- Day 6: Bushmen Tribe
- Itinerary
Leaving Windhoek behind, you head towards Botswana. You spend your last night in Namibia close to the border. There is another opportunity here for interaction with the local community, as well as other activities including a guided walk.
- Days 7-9: Okavango Delta
- Itinerary
Your journey takes you through the border into Botswana and on to Maun. You arrive in the afternoon, leave the truck behind, board the planes, and fly over the delta. After a wonderful scenic flight you arrive at your base for the next 3 days. The Okavango is the largest inland delta in the world. Its crystal clear waters and countless islands are home to an amazing variety of animals and the area is a birder's paradise.
During your time in the Okavango Delta you will go on a guided nature walk and a mokoro (traditional dug out canoe) ride with the local people. On your last day you visit a local village to experience delta culture first hand. The Okavango is truly spectacular and an unforgettable experience.
- Day 10: Caprivi National Park
- Itinerary
Sadly, you leave the Okavango Delta behind you and cross back into Namibia. You travel through the Caprivi National Park en route to your next 'home' alongside the Zambezi River. You spend the night relaxing next to the mighty Zambezi, part of Africa's 4th largest river system.
- Day 11: Chobe National Park
- Itinerary
Today is a short drive back into Botswana to Kasane. Located on the banks of the Chobe River, Kasane is a popular base for exploring Chobe National Park and the 3 surrounding countries. In the afternoon you enjoy a relaxing river cruise on the Chobe River, watching the game come down to the riverbank to drink. Viewing game from a boat is one of the most successful ways to see the animals in their own environment.
- Day 12: Victoria Falls
- Itinerary
Arriving early at our final destination, you head off to visit the Victoria Falls and experience the thundering sound of the mighty Zambezi. Victoria Falls is one of the 7 Natural Wonders of the World and is a truly spectacular sight. The popular optional sunset cruise on the Zambezi River includes dinner and drinks.
- Day 13: Victoria Falls - Tour Ends
- Itinerary
A great way to end the tour is to spend your last day white water rafting in this, the 'adrenaline capital of Africa'. If that doesn't appeal to you, Vic Falls offers many exciting alternatives including bungee jumping, elephant back safaris and tiger fishing, to name but a few.
